Samer AboAlway

About

Thirteen years behind the camera, in the field and in the edit bay.

Samer AboAlway is a Damascus-based director, director of photography, and video editor with over 13 years of experience producing audiovisual content for UN agencies and humanitarian organizations across Syria. Since 2021, he has served as Communication Field Assistant with UN-Habitat's Syria Country Office, leading media production — video, photography, mapping, and visual design — for a national urban development portfolio.

His work has supported UN-Habitat, UNDP, UNICEF, WFP, and UNFPA, and has been screened at the World Urban Forum (WUF13) and distributed internationally. He holds a Diploma in Cinematography and Film/Video Directing from the Syrian International Academy, and is fluent in videography, editing, color grading, and visual identity design.

That same instinct carries into his independent practice. Outside institutional deadlines, Samer directs and shoots documentary, fashion, portrait and wedding work, and edits and color-grades everything himself — from raw footage to a finished, cinematic frame.

His approach stays the same whether the client is a UN agency or a couple on their wedding day — understand the story before raising the camera, protect the dignity of the people in frame, and don't leave the edit until the cut earns its place.
